Harold M. Peschell, 84, entered into rest at his home on April 4, 2018. He was the husband of Evelyn Cole Peschell. In addition to his wife Evelyn, Harold leaves his four children David, Donna (James), Debra (Daniel),Daniel (Jennifer), 8 grandchildren including Francesca (Joe) Cumberledge, Christina, Johnny, Jeremy, Jimmy, Juliana, Ava, Daniel, three step grandchildren Michael. Brittany and Rachel , 2 great grandsons, Kingston and Joseph, his sister Frances Claflin and sister in law Gloria Peschell. He was predeceased by his Anne (the late James) Minuit, his brother Samuel J. Peschell Sr. and brother-in-law Bernie Claflin.
Harold was noted for operating Peschell’s Bakery on Campbell Ave. until 2014, a business that was started in 1950 by his late father. A West Haven legend and a familiar face at Johnny’s Grille, he was honored throughout the years by numerous civic and sports organizations in town. He was named both Italian and Irishman of the Year, and Citizen of the Year, honors bestowed on very few! As a sponsor of many West Haven youth sports teams, he was most proud when his team won the Twilight League National Championship.
Visitation will take place on SUNDAY from 3 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green. On Monday morning all are asked to go directly St. Lawrence Church at 10 o’clock for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
