Joyce W. Mayne, age 81, of Branford, beloved wife of the late Joseph Mayne, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2017 at CT Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Haven on January 29, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William and Winifred (Larkin) Hanson. Before retirement, Joyce enjoyed her career as a medical secretary at Yale New Haven Hospital for over twenty six years. Joyce enjoyed the fine arts, Broadway theatre, and singing with the West Haven Chorale. Her favorite trips included Ireland, Italy, and Newport, RI. She loved celebrating the holidays in grand style with her lifelong close friends, Barbara, Helen, Dot, Renee, and Joan. Joyce grew up on Blohm St. in West Haven and shared many fond memories of “Olde Savin Rock.”
Joyce is survived by her daughters Cheryl (Al) Lipka of Clinton, Laurelyn Celone of Milford, daughter-in-law Ruth Kellett Pekari, sister Nancy Muir (George) Murphy, brother Robert (Rosemary) Hanson, former husband Frederick J. (Mary) Pekari, Sr., grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Oliverio of North Branford, Celeste (Dan) Greenhouse of Clinton, Ryan Lipka (Deanna Ruggio) of Branford, Jason Pekari of Branford, great grandchildren, Alex Lipka, Madelyn and Tyler Greenhouse, Kaley and Mia Oliverio,Tatum and Drew Lipka, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Frederick Pekari, Jr. and her beloved granddaughter Alicia Pekari. Her family would like to thank the doctors, staff, and volunteers at CT Hospice for their compassionate and supportive care during her brief time there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 22nd at 10 AM at Saint Mary Church, 731 Main St., Branford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405 or to Make-A-Wish Foundation at www.wish.org.
