Sharon Anne Martin, age 72, passed away suddenly at Yale New Haven Hospital on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Sharon was born on March 7, 1945 in Waterbury, Connecticut to the late Charles F. Martin and Anne Sheehan Martin. She grew up in Waterbury having moved to West Haven, Connecticut in 1967. Sharon attended Sprague Grammar School and Waterbury Catholic High School, graduating in 1963. She went on to UCONN where she received both her Bachelors and Masters of Social Work. For over 30 years Sharon was employed by the Department of Children and Families, retiring as the Deputy Commissioner. She excelled in her profession, having aided many, many children while she worked there. After retirement, she was very involved with the Community House in West Haven. She was a member and served as President of the Board of the Children’s Community Program. Besides the love she had for her family, Sharon loved to travel, having completed her dream of visiting every one of our 50 states this past summer. Sharon loved Aruba, Mexico, Florida and the Caribbean. So very proud of her Irish heritage, Sharon had the wonderful opportunity of meeting her Irish relatives when she visited Ireland. Sharon was an avid fan of the UCONN Ladies Huskies basketball team and the New York Giants football team.
Sharon is survived by her most cherished friend, Ann Pratson of West Haven, her brother, Charles Martin and his wife Gail, of Cheshire, her sister Nancy Lodge and her husband Raymond, of Watertown, her nephews, Charles Martin and his wife Jaime, of Orange and Matthew Lodge of Waterbury and her niece Kimberly Martin Christensen and her husband James, of Cheshire. She also leaves the most precious loves of her life, her great nieces, Annemarie Christensen, Mackenzie Martin, Alexa Martin, Kayla Martin and her great nephew, Joseph Christensen.
The hours for visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 in Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
