Condolence: Dear Cousins,
I regret that I will be away and cannot be there with you. The news of my Aunt Rita passing gave me that sinking feeling and sadness that we all feel when we hear that a loved one is no longer with us, but it was not long lived , as great memories came to mind . One that stands out for me was her smile and greeting. I can't recall ever seeing her without a smile and was always so happy to see me whenever I visited, and always asking me how I was doing, and always interested in anything I had done.
She was generous and caring , with Nana, and of course , I am grateful for the calls to mom over the years as they did word jumbles and crossword puzzles. My mom's "world" has become very small and their phone calls were really the only outside contact she had , other than her sons families, doctors and the administration at Brandywine where she lives. In fact, I remember several occasions when Aunt Rita was concerned when mom didn't answer the phone and she called my brother wondering, where is Pat ? Mom was out with one of us at the doctor or elsewhere but had not thought to tell Aunt Rita that she would be out. They checked up on each other , though I know the calls started with Aunt Rita.
Mom was upset to hear the news, she repeated several times that she was sorry to hear this, so I know it registered some but she doesn't have the memories to truly mourn. I asked if she would like to attend a service but unfortunately going out for anything other than doctor visits is not in the cards .
Lots of great memories of visits to Atwater Street, picnics, dinners, holidays, and at Nana's with everyone stuffed into that apartment. I am sorry I didn't get to see her more lately but I am grateful for the times I did. She will always bring joy to mind when I remember her.
Ann and I send our thought , prayers , and love to you all.

Condolence: My Mother in Law. Rita was one the nicest people I have ever known. She was always so thoughtful when she spoke she would always take the side of minding her own business and not giving her opinion. I would need to ask for her opinion and sometimes it took several attempts and only then she would and caveat her response first saying something like “it’s your decision but since you ask, if I were in the same situation…” I remember Rita and her husband would go to Florida for the winter and Joe and I would visit them it was lots of fun going to the beach and early bird specials. I learned one of the best beach sandwiches from her that is one of our favorites, an egg salad and tuna fish. There are so many little things we learn from people in our lives and incorporate them in us forever and sometimes pass on to others, always part of us. I will miss you Mom Love Amelia.
