Patty enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. She traveled extensively but loved to return to her home on Long Island Sound where could spend time with her loving husband, John, and her cats. She was also an avid reader and animal lover who enjoyed working with the West Haven Animal Shelter and spending time by the beach with her friends and family.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents James and Anna, and her sister Mary Monte of Barre, VT.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, John Ciardi; her brother, Michael McMorrow of North Clarenden, VT; her son Chris Vinci and his wife Colleen of Fairfield; her cherished grandson Christian Vinci of Fairfield and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pat was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and educator of the many children who were part of her life, which she devoted to education. In her eight year old grandson Christian’s words she was an “amazing grandmother” and a “great person.”
Visitation hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday June 28th at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green on Savin Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory on Thursday June 29th at 11am. Entombment will follow at St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum in West Haven.
In addition to flowers, it was Pat’s wish that you perform a random act of kindness, read a book to a child or donate to your local animal shelter.
The Reading Mother
By Strickland Gillilan
I had a mother who read to me
Sagas of pirates who scoured the sea.
Cutlasses clenched in their yellow teeth;
"Blackbirds" stowed in the hold beneath.
I had a Mother who read me lays
Of ancient and gallant and golden days;
Stories of Marmion and Ivanhoe,
Which every boy has a right to know.
I had a Mother who read me tales
Of Gelert the hound of the hills of Wales,
True to his trust till his tragic death,
Faithfulness lent with his final breath.
I had a Mother who read me the things
That wholesome life to the boy heart brings-
Stories that stir with an upward touch.
Oh, that each mother of boys were such!
You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be --
I had a Mother who read to me.
