William L. Crowder, age 93, of West Haven, beloved husband to the late Billie Jean Crowder, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2018. Born in Powhatan, West Virginia on August 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Doris and Maggie (Anderson) Crowder. William enjoyed a career as a piper and sheet metal worker for Metro North Railroad. He was a typical southern gentleman, loved old western movies, and enjoyed his chewing tobacco. Those that knew William know that he was the most loyal friend you could ever have. He was the “neighborhood handyman” while living in West Haven, always helpful and generous to all. The world will never know a man so genuine, honest, stubborn, family oriented or so loveable.
William is survived by his children, Penny (David) Fitzmiller, Michael (Christin) Crowder, George (Lisa) Weatherman, grandchildren, Daniel (Stephenie) Fitzmaurice, Kyle Fitzmaurice, Georgia Crowder, Abby Crowder, greatgrandchildren Liam Fitzmaurice Main, Layla Jo Fitzmaurice, sisters-in-law, Shirley Crowder, Margie Anderson, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas Crowder, James Anderson, Fonzie Crowder, and his nephew Billy Gene Crowder.
The hours of visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral service will commence Monday at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
