Obituary for Luciano John Fappiano

Luciano Fappiano of West Haven entered into eternity peacefully with his loving daughters by his side on September 19, 2018 at the age of 95. Luciano was the beloved husband of the late Elenor Moquet Fappiano. He was born December 15, 1922, the son of the late Antonio and Antoinette (Botte) Fappiano.

A lifelong West Haven resident, the young Mr. Fappiano heeded his country’s call during World War II and served as a Seaman in the US Navy. He was a gunner on many ships, including the tanker Flagship Sinco, in the Asiatic-Pacific and the African-European Arenas.

Before his retirement, Luciano worked at Newton-New Haven Die Casting Co. in West Haven and North Haven. He enjoyed family vacations in Vermont, gardening, treasure hunting at tag sales, and spending time with his beloved family.

Luciano was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather, as well as a surrogate father to many extended family members, friends and in-laws.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Eileen “Chic” Fappiano (Gary Russell) of North Haven, and Lillianne “Lee” Marchitto of West Haven, and his greatest joy, his grandson David Marchitto (Sean Colombari) of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Coppola of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret D’Onofrio, Rose Camarro and Lillian Horwitz, and his brothers, Pasquale, Paul, Alfred, Vincent, Louis and Lawrence Fappiano.

A special thank you to the nurses at Vitas Healthcare for their kindness, compassion and care.

The hours for visitation will be Sunday from 4-7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint John XXIII (formerly the Church of St. Louis). Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. For online condolences please visit our website at www.westhavenfuneral.com.
