Anna Borowyk of Orange, entered into eternal rest on July 31, 2018. Anna was born on January 27, 1925 to the late Avksenty and Daria Sarancza in Poltava, Ukraine. Her husband John, passed away in 1997 after 51 years of marriage. Anna witnessed and survived Ukraine’s Great Famine, the Holodomor 1931-1932, soviet and nazi occupations, war and German labor camps. She was fluent in Ukrainian, German, Russian, Polish and English. Anna and her family were instrumental in the founding of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New Haven in 1951. She was very active at both her church and the Ukrainian community. Was well known for her speeches. Anna was a proud Ukrainian-American who loved her adopted country USA but never forgot her Ukrainian heritage. She immigrated to the U.S. with her husband, daughter and mother arriving in NY on May 30, 1950. Her happiest moment was when she and John became U.S. citizens in 1956. Her home captured the essence of Ukrainian art with her beautiful embroideries. She worked at Plastic Fabricators, then was bridal consultant and store manager at the Firelite Shop and she retired from Filene’s.
Anna is the beloved mother of Natalie Bacevius (Joseph) of Orange and Anna Guraraldi (Tim) of Newport, N.H. She is also survived by her three granddaughters Jeanette Bacevius of Shelburne, VT., Kristina Kaoud (James) of Woodbridge and Joanne Nottingham (David) of Wallingford. She also leaves her six precious great grandchildren RJ Kaoud, Jill Kaoud, Joey Kaoud, Aidan Nottingham, Emma Nottingham and Hannah Nottingham.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 7:30pm with a Panachyda service at 7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, 662 Savin Avenue, West Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 55 Fowler Street, New Haven. Interment will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Bound Brook, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to CT. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT. 06405 or to St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
